UNLIMITED ACCESS
All members have 24/7 access to the studio. Your own key means you can come and go as you please!
Clays + glazes
We provide a selection of five clay bodies, including porcelain, b-mix, soldate, and dark brown. Choose from over 15 glazes, featuring all your cone 10 favorites, as well as various colored slips and underglazes! The cost of clay includes all glazing and glaze materials, with no extra firing fees.

firing
Firing is included with your membership fee. sfclayworks has a gas kiln that we fire to cone 10 reduction. While we don't charge any firing fees, we do ask that clay be purchased from sfclayworks to ensure it is the correct firing temperature.
Throwing
The studio features 16 community pottery wheels in two distinct areas, allowing you to create alone or with others. Additionally we offer several wedging boards and shared bats.
handbuilding
The studio features space for handbuilding equipped with three tables, a slab roller, banding wheels, rolling pins, hump molds, an extruder and various other supplies.
space
The studio features 2,800 sq ft of warehouse space, with convenient and free parking. Every member is provided with a personal cubby for their supplies, ample shelf space for ongoing projects, and access to a kitchenette.
community events
sfclayworks hosts gallery exhibitions, community sales, holiday events, workshops, and participates in SF Open Studios. Members enjoy discounted access to workshops.

As a community based studio with a cooperative spirit, we offer the opportunity to learn from fellow artists and gain hands-on experience with firing, mixing glazes, and other essential techniques. You'll get to take part in the everyday activities of the ceramic studio, rather than just leaving your pieces for someone to fire.

$190/month includes studio access, firing, glazes, and use of community tools (no other fees besides clay)

A refundable $85 deposit is required when joining sfclayworks. To obtain a full refund, members must give a one-month notice before terminating their membership.

New members can join on the 1st or 15th of each month, and are required to attend a mandatory orientation before beginning work in the studio. We ask that new members commit to being with us for at least 3 months (although we don't require payment up front).
​
We are currently welcoming applications for studio membership with no waitlist. Prospective members will be interviewed to evaluate their experience and fit for our studio. Please apply online, and we will strive to respond within a few days!
